Keychain Black Bear Cub

Bears differ from other carnivores because the specialized grinding teeth they possess are not specifically adapted to tear meat, but instead to grind vegetation. However, in order for such a large animal to successfully survive on a predominantly vegetarian diet, the Black Bear must spend an enormous amount of time eating and is known to consume tens of thousands of nuts and berries per day. Since they spend about half of the day foraging and eating food, the average black bear eats a nut or berry every second.
